A call for artists in upcoming Equality Matters art exhibit
“When artists give form to revelation, their art can advance, deepen and potentially transform the consciousness of their community.” – Alex Grey, American artist 1953 – present.
For decades art has been used as a form of expression, to make a statement and, oftentimes, to take a stand
William Woods University’s Cox Gallery is issuing a call for artists to submit pieces for the upcoming Equality Matters exhibit. The exhibit will take place during the University’s “Equality Matters – Conversations on Gender and Race” symposium that premieres in March.
The symposium will explore how sexism and racism work together to hinder equality. The hope is to encourage students and faculty on campus to engage in intellectual conversation about these social issues.
Artists are invited to submit pieces of art that explore their understanding of the influence gender and race have on contemporary culture. Submission is open until February 15 and is available to artists and fine arts students from Fulton all the way throughout the Midwest. Exhibition jurors will hold a ceremony to distribute awards for first, second and third place on opening night of the exhibit.
Each contributor can submit up to three pieces of artwork of any form, both traditional and non-traditional genre and media welcome.
Traditionally, art has been a tool used by many to say what words could not say and to cause people to see and think and imagine differently. The Cox Gallery presents the opportunity to William Woods University bachelor of fine art students, local artists and those artists across the Midwest to use their gift of art to make a statement of equality.
